After an intense harvest followed by typically sunny October days, keeping our visitors coming, Quinta do Tedo’s pace slows down in November with shorter days and hopeful rain – a welcome change! The new Ports and Douro DOC red wines are resting in the cellars, the grape vines enter dormancy, and there are fewer visitors to Douro Valley. The quieter time from November through March provides a perfect opportunity to focus on special tastings, with a different theme every 15 days. Introduced last year, the response has been positive, and 2 specific tastings stand out.
Our Tawny Barrel Tasting is stellar! Taking place in our 200 year-old ageing cellar, this exclusive and private experience, led by a professional tour guide who draws samples with a traditional glass pipette from 550 L pipas of Tawny Ports dating back to 1992! This is a rare opportunity to taste older Tawny Ports before they are blended into our 20 Year Tawny. Served with Vincent’s chicken liver pate’ toasts– a perfect pairing.
The Port / Douro DOC red wine and Cheese / Chocolate Pairing, takes place in our cozy tasting room during the colder winter months, and is also a much-welcomed addition. Highlighting local artisanal cheeses to include a creamy Serra da Estrela with Tawny, a spicy Serra das Fragas with Porto Rosé and a blue cheese with LBV, or with chocolates made in-house by our pastry chef Micael Pinto, already known for his exquisite desserts in our Bistro Terrace, our visitors choose the pairing.
Thanks to such a positive feedback from our visitors, these tastings are now offered year round, by advanced reservation only, at reservas@quintadotedo.com.
