Douro DOC Rosé 2023

Harvest notes:

The start to harvest 2023 was early, on August 28, and consistently hot and dry, followed by a wave of intermittent rainstorms, making for a harvest of multiple harvests*.

*Dive deeper into our 2023 harvest notes via our August 2023 blog post: https://www.quintadotedo.com/kays-blog-bouchard/harvest-2023.

Our organic vineyards are located within a 2 km radius of Quinta do Tedo, which facilitates close maturation monitoring of our parcels planted to different varieties’, so we can pick each at the perfect point.

Douro DOC Rosé-destined clusters of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz from our cooler vineyard sites (higher elevation and North-facing) are always the first to succumb to our agile harvesters’ scissors, in order to preserve fresh aromas and bright acidity in the grapes.

Very light pressing followed by fermentation and aging in part-cocciopesto amphorae and part-stainless steel tanks ensures our Rosé is delicate and lifted, textured and complex, and uniquely-Tedo.

Tasting notes:

To the eyes - pale rose petal that evolves into a warmer rose gold with age (1-2 years); elegant, cool and inviting. What may seem Provençal in appearance is undoubtedly Douro at heart - a modern Rosé expression of our classic Douro DOC red blend.

Through the nose - beautiful, fresh and complex; small forest strawberries, grapefruit and rhubarb with jasmine florals and exotic aromas of gooseberry, mandarin orange and honeydew melon; intriguing minerality imparted from fermentation and aging in part cocciopesto amphorae.

On the mouth - in harmony with the nose, add raspberry, red currant and blueberry pulp, bright acidity, gastronomic texture and mineral complexity. This is a versatile yet serious Rosé, perfect company for your summer pool days, cheese boards and salads, to pair with grilled seafood and vegetables, quiche, pastas (classic tomato, bright pesto, or creamy salmon), and why not Mexican, Middle Eastern and Asian food too?

Let our Rosé quench your thirst, inspire your cooking, and delight your summer festivities and guests. Just make sure you order enough, it flows fast!

Bom proveito ~ Odile & Kay Bouchard
