We have always wanted to add a wine that is right on for the summer heat and to pair with different dishes, but our property is best suited for red wine grapes for which our Douro DOC red wines and Ports are internationally acclaimed. Paolo, 28 year-old son who works with Vincent at Bouchard Cooperages in barrel, amphorae and cocciopesto marketing and sales, pointed out the obvious – why not pick up some grapes early and make a rosé!?
With winemaker Jorge Alves’ bravura already in dry, fresh and elegant rosé wines, and Paolo’s advice to play around with cocciopesto, an ancient Roman material used to make baths and aqueducts that could add a mineral and textural dimension, Quinta do Tedo’s first ever Douro Rosé was made in 2020. A blend of Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Touriga Nacional, fermented then aged for 5 months partially in stainless steel and in cocciopesto, a new star is born!
Jorge Alves’ tasting notes invite another sip: “a bone dry Rosé style showing delicate white floral and herbal nuances amidst a multi-layered red fruit profile (gooseberry/raspberry). Schist rock and freshness combining local varietals, nurtured by Douro sunshine and the Tedo river’s freshness and representing the region’s classicism. Enjoy!”
The Bouchard Family is proud to present our Rosé to you in the sweet video below. We suggest you pair our new release with fresh goat cheese, salads with toasted seeds and herbs, fowl, fish and seafood, curries and Asian dishes. I also love it on its own, when “wine time” officially begins….
We are ready to send direct to you in most European countries and the UK (click here to access our online shop, or send an email to commandes@quintadotedo.com), and soon to be in the US (via Rachel Farah Selections)!
